Lockdown, isolation and our perceptions of love

London 20 July 2021

The Corona-tion of Celia explores themes of love and isolation and how we cope with the uncertainty they create.

Jim and Celia have a brief encounter at a dance club but the imposition of a national lockdown delays their next meeting. Unable to reach Celia, Jim’s internal world is thrown into turmoil as his hopes, dreams and emotions are left in limbo.

The Corona-tion of Celia, a new writing play by Gideon Benari, is a devised physical theatre two-hander devised and performed by Pauline Superville and Gideon Benari.

The play takes place at moment in time, which is extended unnaturally due to lockdown. The physical performance creates a troubled emotional world in which fantasy and reality clash and embrace, as Jim explores an imagined relationship with a woman who is seemingly oblivious to his existence.

The Corona-tion of Celia is showing at the Etcetera Theatre in Camden on 23, 24 August (9.30pm), 25, 26 & 27 August (1.30pm) 2021. The production is part of the Camden Fringe 2021.
